‘Eris’ the British designed and built OUT95
“Monomaran” premiered in Switzerland in the
Geneve-Rolle-Geneve last Saturday limbering up for the Bol d’Or.
The OUT95 performed tremendously moving into the top five during the
race and eventually finishing 13th monohull in a fleet of 260, second
in class “L”. The OUT95 team is ready to build on this
performance and put the “Bateaux Bleu” on the podium for
the Bol d’Or.
OUT95’s participation in Swiss yacht races has been made possible
by our sponsors “Wings Project Art Space”, St Prex and the
support of the Gstaad Yacht Club. The Bol d’Or will be the third
race on the boat’s European tour of Blue Riband yacht races,
which comprises of regattas in Hungary, Scandinavia, Italy and the UK.
OUT95’s futuristic appearance catches the eye, but it’s her
blistering performance makes the biggest impact. This exciting 9.5m
wave-piercing winged monohull is fast in 'real time' and competes for
both line and handicap honours against much bigger competition.
Inspired by Pacific Proas (craft sailed on one narrow hull with an
outrigger to windward), OUT95 designer Neal Pawson has penned an
extremely narrow hull similar to a multihull, combined with wide wings
to give large crew righting moment and low drag reserve stability.
Built by Out and Out Solution, the OUT95 is the product of an extensive
development programme, including model testing and computer analysis.
The European race programme gave added challenges, Alex Briggs, OOS
director explained ‘Although we were striving for a lightweight
product, we were also focused on a boat that could be transported
easily between events. This dictated a modular construction with
removable wings, bow and a two part mast.'
The project includes a partnership of leading marine companies who are
using the innovative OUT95 to push the barriers of technology and
performance.
