COMPOSITES

The OUT95 is an oven cured, vacuum consolidated monocoque structure. The construction is almost entirely Advanced Composites Group VTM Series UD carbon prepreg with VTA film adhesive over nomex core. Local woven and biax materials are used to either limit damage or increase damage tolerance.

Out + Out Solutions used both FEA and classical methods to analyse the loads within the structure  to optimise the engineering of the composite parts.

Through the EU SAFECOMP Programme extensive impact test program was carried out with the University of Portsmouth allowing the optimisation of sandwich components to provide a longevity unusual in such a lightweight structure. Classification of material combinations was through their performance after impact, damage tolerance threshold (onset damage), and penetration resistance.

We used destructive testing to verify the engineering and construction of components, composite rigging fittings were tensile tested by the University of Portsmouth and found to fail within 5% of calculated predictions.
